Rants: The Gifting Club

written by Willy Nelson Jr.

Over my years in Network Marketing I have been approached about a half dozen times with a pyramid scheme.  A good ole fashion money deal…in fact as recently as a week ago a good friend called me to let me know they were doing better than ever!  Of course the conversation went to the obvious, what’s changed in your life?  This friend had made gangster income in a short time.

It’s easy to be lured into such a deal…but with my knowledge and having the resources in my life to get the answers I quickly passed on the promise of fast cash and incredible amounts of money delivered to the door daily.

I have had other friends lose upwards of $20K in deals very similar!  The owners and top earners go to jail…and everyone else is left holding the bag.  This particular friend lost every dime and was not repaid one cent.  I wanted to pass along what the FTC fraud division had to say about them.

With today’s current economic situation, only getting worst it’s a haven for such deals to pop up all over the place… Be careful out there!

Always remember there are plenty of legit company’s out there and with a lil elbow grease you can make an incredible income!

The Gifting Club “Gotcha”

When is a gift not a gift? When it’s a “gotcha.”

In a scam spreading throughout the mid-Atlantic states and the Pacific Northwest, people pay to join a “gifting club,” billed in promotional materials as a private club with members eager to help new friends — often from within their own neighborhood or church group.

In reality, the clubs are illegal pyramid schemes. New club members give cash “gifts” to the highest-ranking club members, with titles such as “captains.” And they’re promised that if they get additional members to join the club, they, too, will rise to become captains and receive money – far more than they initially paid to join the club — from newer club “friends.”

The problem is that, like most pyramid schemes, illegal gifting clubs must continually recruit ever-increasing numbers of members to survive. When the clubs don’t attract enough new members, they collapse. Most members who paid to join the clubs never receive the financial “gifts” they expected, and lose everything they paid to join the club.

Don’t Get on the Receiving End of a Gifting Club “Gotcha”

Promises of quick, easy money can be a powerful lure – especially when it comes with the additional benefit of new friendships.

If you’re approached about joining a club but you aren’t sure if it’s an illegal gifting club, the Federal Trade Commission reminds you to:

  • Consider that a legitimate gift has no strings attached and is not an “investment.”
  • Avoid being misled into thinking a gifting club is legitimate because the ads say that members consider their payments a gift and expect nothing in return. This is an attempt to make an illegal transaction look legal.
  • Be wary of success stories or testimonials of tremendous payoffs. Very few members of illegal gifting clubs or pyramid schemes ever receive any money.
  • Take your time. Don’t buckle under to a high-pressure sales pitch that requires you to join immediately or risk losing out on the opportunity. Remember, solid opportunities – and solid friendships – aren’t formed through nerve-wracking tactics.

To File a Complaint

If you’ve been victimized by a gifting club promoter, contact your local consumer protection agency, state attorney general and Better Business Bureau.

Rants: ???Binaries???

7 08 2010

written by Willy Nelson Jr.

Anyone that has known me for any length of time knows where I stand on this compensation plan.  Now, there are many leaders within the profession that love the binary compensation plan, I just happen to HATE it.  This post is simply my opinion but every statement I will back up with the reasons that I feel the way I do about it.  I welcome comments from other leaders because I think it is good to get both sides and then make our own educated opinions.

Let me start off by telling you that there are very few things that I HATE because that happens to be a very strong word.  But let me delve right in to the reasons why I feel the way I do.

First off, there are only a few binaries that have made it the long haul.  Why?  There are a lot of reasons for it in my opinion.  First,  only a few people at the top make a lot of money and the average person does not make one dime…when I say not one dime, that is a literal term.  Because to qualify for a paycheck you must cycle.  A cycle means that you have enrolled usually 3 people into the program on your weak side, sometimes more than that and then sometimes less but that is a good average.  By industry numbers, the average network marketer enroll 2.1 people into their primary company.  So they never cycle.

Second,  the company pays you on your weak side.  So you build a business working with those that you introduce to the company and only get paid on the side that is the weakest.  Where is the fairness in that?  I have a friend and former business partner that joined one of the more well known binaries right now about 4 years ago.  We have spoken a few times about the company.   About a year ago, he asked me to speak with his good friend and enroller about their company.  I agreed.  She told me all the wonderful things about the company and why I should join forces with them.  In the conversation he shared with me that his volume was 96,000+ and I thought to myself….WOW he must really be doing good for himself!  I was shocked to find out that it was quite the contrary!  After we finished the call, we had a call after the call.  I asked the big question…so with a volume of $96K what does that pay you?  He said I am too embarrassed to tell you…I was stunned!  So I gave him an out…I said what was your best check.  So he shared with me that his BIGGEST check ever was $1000…No I am not missing any 0′s in that figure.  His volume was $96K but only $10K in his weakest line.  The company pays 10% on the weakest line.  This is a good example of a person who works very hard at what he does and is now mad out our profession.  MAKES ME FUME!

This is a compensation plan for the big recruiter…if you are not a big recruiter you should not even consider this plan.  I have another former business partner that recently joined the NEWEST best company on the market.  In and out in exactly 2 months!  Why, did not make any $$$.  HMMMM he brought in a big recruiter personally but that was it!  Now his dreams of big riches, GONE FOREVER!  If you have an upline that is pouring people into your strong line and you are a consistent big recruiter then you can make some cold hard cash!  Simply put the average person does not make it and the extraordinary will…This is a recipe for Disaster, in my humble opinion of course.

More to come in future rant posts on binary compensation plans!

Til next time keep building!

Onward and Upward!

Recognize: Cheer and Encourage

“Recognize: Cheer and Encourage”  written by Willy Nelson Jr.

A few years ago a business partner and I went to Germany to assist his team leaders expand their business in Germany.  We went about getting ready for the launch of the company there. We prepared to do meetings with prospective new business partners.  Once we arrived in Haltern Am See we met with a few prospective leaders in our organization.  We went through two different exercises while we were there.  I want to talk about the impact that one of the exercises had on each of us.  It was called “recognition”

One of the hardest things that we as human beings deal with is to recognize and acknowledge the good in us.  We always point out the errors we make but rarely the good we do.  In this exercise we all get in a circle 6-10 people is best.  Going clock wise each person must share 5-6 things that we recognize in us as good.  Then you will proceed to share with the group 5-6 things that you see in each of the people in the circle as good.  This exercise was very powerful!  It is best to do this exercise at least a few times a week with your business partners, your friends, and your loved ones…it will make your relationships stronger.

I wanted to start off by sharing this powerful exercise because it is a good illustration of recognition.

Today,  just wanna share a few key points to help you grow your Network Marketing business.  We are going to talk about recognition of your leaders, by private and public cheering as well as encouragement.

Art Williams: “Learn to treat people good.”  If you get really good at treating people good you will build a massive business.

There are a lot of things that you can do to cheer on your team members.  Think about the profession of cheer.  What is it that Cheerleaders do?  They stand on the sidelines and cheer on their team.  They cheer them on when they are winning and they cheer them on when they are losing.  They use the same energy either way.

There are a lot of great things that you can do to cheer on your team.  You can pick up the phone in private and make a congratulations call for a new enrollments, a successful presentation, or an advancement to a new title in your company.  You can give them a public shout out on a team conference call.  You can send them a card in the mail.  You can send them a bouquet of flowers.  There are so many ways that you can cheer your team to victory!

” Everyone you work with in business pretend that there is a flashing sign on their chest.  Everyone is saying make me feel special, make me feel important, say something good to me.   I wanna be somebody.”  Art Williams

Art is so right on with that statement.  If you provide people in your life what they are not getting elsewhere then they will do all they can to help you.  This is all part of the “Cheer-leading” in the business and in life.

“When you encourage others, you encourage yourself.”  John C Maxwell

So what is encouragement?  Strength, Motivation and Comfort

Encouragement is a vital part of success.  Most have to fail their way to success.  So during the valley’s of life and business it is important to have people in our life to keep us encouraged to keep moving forward.

Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I will not forget you…” William Arthur Ward

Send a word of encouragement to someone special today!  Take a moment and drop them a quick note,  drop them a card in the mail or pick up the phone and give them that word of strength, comfort, or motivation.  Let em know that you are with them!

What you do during the valleys of life determine how big your peaks of life will be. Do something today that will make your next peak leaps and bounds above your last.

Til Next time! Onward and Upward!

All is fair in love and War

“All is Fair in Love and War…”  written by Willy Nelson Jr.

That line brings up some major mixed thoughts.  The free enterprise system is a dog eat dog world.  As network marketing professionals it is important that we bring more value than our competition at every level of the prospecting process.  We must bring more value to our brand new business partner than our competition.  So naturally it’s just as important that we bring more value to our long term building giants than our competition as well.
I decided to share this post within our profession because of two different conversations I have recently had with leaders in my organization.  The first conversation I had was with a friend and business partner that I have begun to coach.  She asked me “It must really get to you when a leader that you work with and help build a business leaves your organization?”  Naturally, that conversation could have gone many different directions.  I spent the next few minutes explaining about residual income and that as long as people were buying books, watching movies, and listening to music the authors were getting paid.  But as soon as the popularity of the book, music, or movie fades then so does the residual income.  As soon as its replaced with new then the income goes away.

The second conversation was with one of my top leaders.  He and his wife were pitched by a personal friend and previous sideline leader from the second company that I built.  When I left ProJoba, out of professional courtesy I never approached a single leader in her business.  This leader did not contact me about this new business venture because she knew that she could not recruit me into her new deal.  So she approaches one of my top leaders with the deal instead.  Naturally this information was shared with me.  Bringing up the second topic of conversation.  The response shared with me after this conversation was “Willy, all is fair in love and war.”

As leaders in the profession of Network Marketing it’s vital to the longevity of our marketing organization to provide value. to our prospects, business partners, and top leaders.

When building our marketing organization we must provide valuable information  to our prospective business partners about joining our business.  We must bring value to the prospects tool box that they are not receiving from our competition.  Remember you are not in the convincing game, you are a supplier of information.  Value is part of relationship building.

Once someone joins your business the real work begins.  So many amateur marketers think they have arrived once the ink dries on the enrollment form.  They move on to the next potential enrollment.  They take the attitude that the cream rises to the top…Good luck!  Most fall through the cracks and never even get off the ground.  Instead, bring value to your business partners that they are not getting outside of your organization.  Recognition is something that many don’t get outside.  Education is something that most don’t get outside of the organization unless they pay dearly for it.  We are building a volunteer army.  Naturally, your marketing executives have free will and can come and go from your business.  I am not saying they will quit your team but in essence they do when they are not engaged in growing the business.  If you are providing something to your business partners that they are not getting anywhere else then it is a sure way to keep their attention.

In the middle of writing this post a youtube video was posted on facebook by a mentor of mine.  I thought I would share it here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAu4KnD05VU

I have saved the most impactful to your long term income for last.  This group of people are trained professionals in your marketing organization.  This is a group of people that many times have become very close friends in the business building process.  They also are some of the most sought after for their expertise.  Most of the top networkers in our profession share that 70-80% of their income comes from 2 to 3 people and the other 20-30% of their income comes from the rest of the organization of thousands.  If they are that important to your long term financial security then there are a lot of reasons to bring them value, correct?  Like the other two groups you must be providing them with value that they are not getting elsewhere.  This is a group that many times we forget about bringing value because they will always be with you.  I would challenge you that quite the contrary.  We must always continue to bring value at every level of business!  Don’t leave anyone out!  Get creative here, value is value…provide it!

I want to thank both leaders for their conversations in the last few weeks.  It is conversations like these that keep leaders growing!

The statement “All is fair in love and war” is true on so many levels and yet so wrong!  Just stay at the top of your game by bringing value!

This topic is rarely discussed in our profession but used by the professionals in their tool box.

Until next time! Onward and Upward!!

“Selling Hope in a Fearful World” written by Willy Nelson Jr

“Selling Hope in a Fearful World” by Willy Nelson Jr.

I am writing you this message today just less than a month after the World watched an African American take the sacred oath of office for the highest position in the land, President of the United States. How was it possible for a little known candidate with the funny name, Barack Hussein Obama, to be elected President? It was simple, Hope!

President Obama and his team of very creative speech writers sold Hope to a fearful America. With the crumbling economy, a long war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and thousands of homes going on the chopping block daily, America was full of fear. Fear is paralyzing!

I am sure you are wondering what does that have to do with Network Marketing, right? It’s simple. We live and are building long term income in that same fearful World. So what do we as professional Networkers have to do to unparalyze our World? Again, it’s simple. Sell Hope!

In my opinion we have the greatest gift to share with a fearful World! We do have the answer. Where can someone build a multiple six figure income in a crumbling economy without prejudice of gender, race, background, religion, and region? NO WHERE. Now I am here to tell you that not all companies are created equal. So I think it is important that you do your own evaluation and find the right company as you are on your path toward bringing hope to a fearful World. A great site to help you in your evaluation is http://firstclassmlm.com

If you could help 100 people in your community earn an extra $5000 a month can you imagine what kind of an impact that would have during this downturn in our economy? What about 1000 people earning an extra $500 a month? In most cases that would keep the family from falling into foreclosure or even bankruptcy! If you don’t believe that is possible, I would tell you to call the person that brought you into the business, and ask that very question. Is it possible?

I believe there are many companies out there that have great products or they would not be here in this economy, right? I am convinced that not all compensation plans are created equal however. It is important that you sell the money right now. Why? Everyone needs more money…they are looking at Corporate America, Corporate Canada, etc to fill the void…yet tens of thousands are losing their jobs daily. Just turn on the news! So get out there and share Hope among the fear-mongering!

I will be posting several articles over the next few months about how to sell Hope!
